Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise resort is located a scenic two hour drive (195 km / 120 miles) from the Calgary International Airport (YYC).
Beginning in Calgary, this picturesque route heads west 84 miles (135 kilometers) to the border of Banff, then 36 miles (58 kilometers) to the northwest through the heart of Banff to Lake Louise.
The iconic stretch of roadway connecting Banff and Lake Louise is known as the Trans-Canada Highway, reaching across Canada from the west coast to the east. Tracing the Bow River, the Trans-Canada Highway will take you beneath iconic mountains such as Castle Mountain and Mount Temple. There are multiple wildlife crossings, a unique demonstration of ecological design that enables wildlife to cross the highway safely! Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is nestled in the heart of Banff National Park; a 45-minute drive from the town of Banff.
Take the scenic route
From Banff, Highway 1A (Bow Valley Parkway) weaves through prairie foothills and follows the Bow River through the forested mountain valleys of Canada's first national park, Banff National Park, established in 1885. This route will add approximately 20 minutes onto your journey to Lake Louise.
Rent a car: Two lane, divided highway with gradual elevation gain. Serviced frequently by snowplows as required.
Take a bus: Check out Brewster Express as an option to let someone else do the driving. Approximate 3-3.5 hours to arrive at the doors of the resort.
