If there is one month of the year that has a wellness focus worldwide, it's June! We were pleased to have once again participated in Global Wellness Day and International Yoga Day. As well, to continue to raise awareness of the importance of looking after ourselves and one another, and what we can do to feel our best.
Saturday, June 8 was Global Wellness Day. We are proud to share that Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise was one of the 5000 locations across more than 130 countries that celebrated the day.
Our longtime local retreat facilitator, Tracey Delfs, led our guests through a series of complimentary outdoor meditation sessions that promoted balance and reconnecting with nature in the heart of Banff National Park.
There was no better way to kick off this special day than with a sunrise meditation on our boathouse dock at 5:45 am. This is the only day of the year that we invite guests to join us for this exclusive morning exercise on the dock. The air was still and the clouds hung low, cocooning the mountains and hiding their true height. Lake Louise was a turquoise blue and there was a great sense of peace and tranquility among the group.
Following the guided meditation, guests participated in a Mindful Lakeshore Stroll. This was a chance to get a taste of "Forest Bathing" in our spectacular mountain setting. It was a chance to elevate your awareness and really become mindful and conscious of the surroundings. Being mindful while in nature can bring you more peace, pleasure and appreciation with every step.
The best part is that our piece of paradise isn't going anywhere. You can perform a mindful walk at any time using these guidelines from Davina Bernard. There's no right or wrong way to walk mindfully - just experience it in a way that is unique to you.
Lastly, we offered a Voyageur Canoe Meditation for guests in the afternoon. It doesn't get more tranquil than meditating from the waters of Lake Louise in our iconic heritage canoes.

Global Wellness Day was first celebrated in Turkey in 2012, where it became the "first" day dedicated to living well. They day has since been accepted worldwide. Here are seven steps that you're encouraged to incorporate into your daily life on a regular basis, according to Global Wellness Day. Through Lake Louise Wellness, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is in support of creating a lasting awareness of living well for all people and spreading this awareness.
On Friday, June 21 we celebrated International Day of Yoga. In partnership with lululemon, we hosted a Yoga Flow class overlooking beautiful Lake Louise. Led by local yoga and meditation teacher, Trish Tutton, this was another opportunity to energize and empower our guests.
International Day of Yoga aims to raise global awareness of the benefits of practicing yoga. There are an array of benefits you can experience that are beyond the mat. Harvard Medical School has done a great job of outlining these. Yoga classes are part of our wellness/fitness schedule which are complimentary to guests.
